James R. Slawny

Jim is the founder and principal partner of Executive Administration, Inc. Jim currently is executive director for two of the firm’s national medical associations: the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Under his executive leadership, the associations have strengthened in membership size and assets every year and have never experienced a deficit year.

Jim is responsible for many firsts in the industry, such as the recording of an entire medical convention on interactive CD-ROM in 1993. He has instituted CME and self-assessment tests in medical journals, developed doctors’ “job fairs” at annual conventions, created association computer resource centers, launched a satellite journal club, published a practice management newsletter, established a medical foundation and led strategic planning retreats for association officers and boards.

Prior to founding EAI, Jim was assistant executive director for the 14,800-member Illinois State Medical Society where he was employed for 20 years. His area of specialty was public relations and member opinion surveys. Prior to association administration, Jim began his career as a radio and television news director, newspaper reporter and advertising director.

Rick Slawny

Rick is the Vice President of Executive Administration, Inc. and serves as the Executive Director for the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) and Co-Executive Director for the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI). With 15 years of association management experience, he oversees the operations of all EAI clients and is a specialist in leadership development and convention management.

Under Rick’s leadership, SSO membership has doubled and its net assets have increased by $3 million in just 10 years. The Society also launched a successful Web site and began an accrediting program for surgical oncology and breast fellowship training programs.

He also serves as executive director of the James Ewing Foundation, a philanthropic arm of the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the American Association of Certified Allergists.

Rick’s extensive management experience has made him highly skillful in negotiations, meeting coordination, development of publications and all forms of communications.

Mike Slawny

Mike is the Vice President of Executive Administration, Inc. and serves as the Executive Director of ACAAI Foundation and Associate Director of Academy of Osseointegration (AO). With eight years of association experience, he oversees all of fulfillment requirements of EAI’s clients.

Under his leadership, the ACAAI Foundation has launched a successful Planned Giving Campaign and has introduced numerous new sponsorship opportunities to the AO. He specializes in journal contract negotiations and convention management.

Kevin Smith

Kevin has more than 19 years of health care administration experience with one of the Chicago area’s largest health care systems, and 13 years executive-level national association management experience with both professional and medical associations.

He is the executive director of the Academy of Osseointegration, a surgical dental society that has grown from 3,800 members to more than 5,200 members since EAI began managing the Academy in May 2000. The organization experienced its largest net profit – $1,170,000 – this past year.

Kevin’s background also includes designing national training programs, scientific journal publishing, managing a national certification program and marketing a wide-range of association products and services. His expertise includes developing comprehensive non-dues business ventures, developing and implementing strategic plans, initiating membership recruitment and retention campaigns. 

Kevin received a master’s degree from Northwestern University and an MBA from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.

Stella Zedalis

Stella has 17 years of experience in association management, including her current positions as associate executive director of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and assistant executive director of the ASCRS Research Foundation.

Under Stella’s leadership, the ASCRS has achieved dramatic increases in membership, annual meeting attendance, annual operating budget and total assets. The latest ASCRS achievement is a highly successful launch of a $5 million capital endowment campaign for the ASCRS Research Foundation.

Stella oversees the ASCRS continuing medical education program and together with its leadership has attained “commendations” from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education for the past 15 years.

Prior to joining EAI, Stella was director of public relations and special events for Orchard Association for the Retarded and was project manager at Argus Communications. She began her career as a teacher in the intermediate grades in Paramus, N.J.

Stella received a master’s degree from William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J.
