An organization’s reputation, growth and continued existence can depend on the degree to which its targeted “publics” know that it exists and support its goals and policies. Sometimes a crisis management plan is necessary because news and information are traveling faster than ever. Associations must be able to quickly answer questions about a looming or sudden crisis within their profession.
EAI helps its clients develop and manage communication strategies that produce results. EAI’s staff has more than 50 years of combined experience in successfully handling PR challenges.
The president of the firm, James Slawny, began his career in print journalism at the Milwaukee Sentinel and for 20 years was public relations director and associate executive director for the Illinois State Medical Society.
EAI’s executive vice president, Alan Leahigh, with a master’s degree in journalism, also began his career in daily newspapers. For 10 years, he worked for the American Dental Association as director of public education and then editor of the ADA News. For the 14 years before coming to EAI, he was executive vice president and partner in a national public relations firm that specializes in health care public relations.
EAI clients have won numerous national awards for their public relations and marketing communications programs from groups such as the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). In 2001, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology won ASAE’s top national award in the “Associations Advance America” competition. The results of these activities have been increased public awareness of the role and importance of association members and major advances in the public policy agenda of our client associations.

Each of our major association clients has at least one Web site. Maintenance is accomplished through a combination of staff activity and outsourced services. Host servers are located off-site.
Web sites contain interactive bulletin boards for committee work, list-serve discussion forums, interactive questionnaires, online job banks and other state –of-the-art Web capabilities.
One Web site has a “Physician Locator” that provides not just referral information, but also addresses, phone numbers and street maps with mileage distance for physicians in the vicinity of the Web site visitor. Corporate grants and sponsorships allow Web sites to be a “surplus center” for client associations.
In addition to managing a Web site for each client, EAI provides:
- Broadcast e-mail communication.
- Online registration for meetings.
- Online abstract submission and review.
- Online membership surveys.
- Online credit card processing.
